Level 1: A Three Part Treatment Plan for Muscle-Based (Oral-Motor) Therapy

by Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson MS, CCC-SLP
2-Day Presentation

Presenter: Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson, MS, CCC-SLP Renee Roy-Hill, MS, CCC-SLP

Sara Rosenfeld-Johnson's unique tactile-sensory approach to speech therapy uses therapy tools 'disguised' as toys! See how 40 fun-to-use exercises can be used to improve phonation, resonation, and speech clarity. Interactive, hands-on demonstrations will focus on therapeutically sound techniques that develop the oral-motor muscles needed for improving speech clarity : abdomen, velum, jaw, lips and tongue. Your child and adult clients will actually want to do them because they are fun and they work! (apraxia/dysarthria).

Developing Oral-Motor and Feeding Skills in the Down Syndrome Population

by Lori L. Overland MS. CCC-SLP

Presenter: Lori L. Overland, MS, CCC-SLP
1-Day Presentation

This seminar focuses on the development of oral-motor and feeding skills in the Down syndrome population from birth to adulthood. Factors which potentially impact feeding will be presented. This will be followed by an overview of therapeutic intervention strategies to prevent long term feeding problems. Assessment of sensory and motor skills will be discussed prior to the lunch break. The afternoon program provides a framework for developing sensory diets and facilitating improved oral-motor and feeding skills through therapeutic feeding techniques.

Childhood Apraxia of Speech: The Oral-Motor Component

by Renee Roy Hill MS, CCC-SLP
1-Day Presentation

Presenter: Renee Roy Hill, MS, CCC-SLP

Renee will discuss how many clients with a diagnosis of Childhood Apraxia of Speech also have co-existing deficits to include sensory, feeding and oral-motor deficits. She will address how implementing a muscle-based program in a therapeutic hierarchy in conjunction with traditional verbal/tactile techniques will improve speech clarity for these clients with the diagnosis of Apraxia. Each exercise can be implemented easily within the school and/or home environment.

Prerequisite: Satisfactory completion of the Level 1 workshop.

Tongue Thrust Therapy: A Muscle-Based (Oral-Motor) Approach to Diagnosis and Treatment

by Robyn Merkel MA, CCC-SLP
1-Day Presentation

Presenter: Robyn Merkel, MA, CCC-SLP

Robyn Merkel-Piccini's "SMILE Program" (SysteMatic Intervention for Lingual Elevation) is an effective way to help children remediate articulation errors including persistent lisps, interdentalized productions of t-d-l-n, and distortions of sh-ch-r. The program targets the root of the speech problem which is often a tongue thrust disorder. Robyn discovered in a school-based setting that by combining oral-motor, swallowing and articulation therapies progress rates improved. This one-day seminar deals with children 7+ who have the cognitive ability to follow directions and to monitor their own swallow patterns.

As a Parent: What Can I Do to Improve My Child's Feeding and Speaking?

by Lisa Brideson MS, CCC-SLP
